Explore grand historic homesteads, charming rural towns and intriguing museums that reveal the heritage and character of each region.

Relax and unwind in the famous Artesian Thermal Pools of Moree, discover native bush foods and Indigenous knowledge, and experience the colourful outback atmosphere of Lightning Ridge, Australia’s renowned opal capital. Highlights include a guided town tour, an underground visit to the remarkable Chambers of the Black Hand, and encounters with passionate local producers who proudly share their stories.

Comfortable accommodation, delicious meals and scenic coach travel ensure a relaxed pace throughout. With visits to fish farms, pecan orchards, cactus gardens and the fertile agricultural landscapes of the Upper Hunter, every day offers something different. Itinerary

Day 1: Sydney to Port Macquarie

Depart Sydney and travel north through the picturesque Mid North Coast. Visit Ludden Lodge Alpaca Farm for a fascinating introduction to alpaca farming before enjoying a picnic lunch beside the river at Raymond Terrace. Continue to Johns River for a tour of The Dairy before arriving in Port Macquarie. Settle into your accommodation at Rydges Port Macquarie and enjoy a group dinner.

Day 2: Port Macquarie to Armidale

After breakfast, journey to Levenvale Farm for an engaging farm tour and paddock to plate lunch experience. Later, visit the beautiful Dangar Falls before travelling through the New England region to Armidale. En route, enjoy a scenic drive through Gostwyck Station, renowned for its historic chapel and tree lined avenues. This evening stay at Rydges Armidale.

Day 3: Armidale and Wollomombi Region

Explore the heritage listed Saumarez Homestead, offering a glimpse into life in the late nineteenth century. This afternoon visit Hillgrove Museum to learn about the region’s rich mining history before returning to Armidale.

Day 4: Armidale to Moree

Day 5: Moree and Surrounds

Day 6: Moree to Lightning Ridge

Depart for the legendary opal mining town of Lightning Ridge. On arrival, join a guided town tour and learn about the area’s colourful characters and fascinating history. After lunch, explore the famous Chambers of the Black Hand mine, featuring remarkable underground carvings. Tonight stay at Wallangulla Motel.

Day 7: Lightning Ridge to Quirindi

Visit Bevans Cactus Nursery before travelling through Walgett to Narrabri. Enjoy lunch and a tour of the Narrabri Fish Farm, gaining insight into modern aquaculture practices. Continue through the Liverpool Plains to Quirindi and settle into the Best Western Quirindi RSL Motel before dinner.

Day 8: Quirindi to Sydney

This morning enjoy a fascinating agricultural tour with Upper Hunter Valley Tours, showcasing the region’s farming industries and rural landscapes. Continue to Singleton for lunch before commencing the journey back to Sydney, arriving late afternoon with wonderful memories of regional New South Wales.

Dear Kerry and staff Thank you for organising the Temora airshow and Wagga tour for our club. We all enjoyed the four days away. The tour length was just right for us ‘oldies’. The Mercure Wagga was very comfortable and centrally located, and there was plenty of free time to explore the galleries, gardens Riverina Museum, and shops on offer in Wagga. The Tamora airshow was an opportunity to view old planes and to see an aviation display for novices to aviation displays. We learnt so much about the RAAF presence in Wagga and Temora during WWII. A highlight of the Junee Rail Museum was the dedicated locals who told us all about trains and privatisation of New South Wales rails. A special bouquet of thanks to Paul , our wonderful coach driver and Marie, our friendly tour guide. Nothing was a problem for them. Both Marie and Paul worked as a great team and put us all at ease. We greatly appreciated all their work, effort, fun and friendship to make our trip memorable. Thanks Guys! It was great to be travelling with Oncourse again. Hi Debbie, I must say that the tour was well constructed with lots of places to check out. But surprisingly there was enough time allocated to do all the features mentioned in the brochure. I didn’t feel rushed at any point. The accommodation was A1 and you put on delightful meals. I’m looking forward to my next tour with ‘On Course’ in November. I must make comment about our driver ‘Peter’. Very personable and easy going, nothing seemed to faze him. He is a true professional driver / tour director. I look forward to having him on future tours. Yes, I will be a repeat customer! Also the pickup / drop off at North Sydney station works.
