Our outback adventure begins as we fly from Sydney via Brisbane to the legendary town of Longreach, the heart of Queensland’s Outback. After settling into our accommodation, we experience the spectacular Qantas Founders Museum Luminescent Longreach Experience, where state-of-the-art light and sound projections transform historic aircraft and buildings into a captivating celebration of the pioneers of Australian aviation. We then enjoy dinner together, looking forward to the unforgettable days ahead.

This morning we visit the Longreach School of Distance Education, where we gain a fascinating insight into how children living in some of Australia’s most remote communities receive their education. We then explore the renowned Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, beginning with an inspiring cinematic presentation before enjoying the acclaimed live Stockman’s Show. Afterwards, there is time to wander the museum’s interactive galleries and enjoy lunch at your leisure. Before returning to our accommodation, we visit The Station Store, showcasing quality Australian-made gifts, clothing and locally inspired souvenirs.

Today offers an authentic taste of Outback station life as we travel to Nogo Station, a family-owned working cattle property. Here we enjoy warm country hospitality while learning about the challenges and rewards of life on the land, with stories, demonstrations and a delicious home-style lunch. Returning to Longreach, we explore the remarkable Qantas Founders Museum, home to an impressive collection of historic aircraft and interactive exhibits celebrating the birth and development of Australia’s national airline. Later this afternoon, we unwind aboard the memorable Starlight’s Cruise Experience, enjoying dinner as we cruise the tranquil Thomson River and witness a magnificent outback sunset.

After breakfast we farewell Longreach and travel to the historic town of Winton, birthplace of Waltzing Matilda. We visit the award-winning Waltzing Matilda Centre, where engaging displays bring to life Australia’s most famous bush ballad along with the rich history and pioneering spirit of the region. Following lunch, we continue to the internationally acclaimed Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum, where we discover one of the world’s most significant collections of dinosaur fossils. Our visit includes the fascinating Dinosaur Canyon, home to life-sized bronze dinosaur sculptures and breathtaking views across the surrounding mesa country.

This morning we journey to the remarkable Dinosaur Stampede National Monument at Lark Quarry, home to the only known fossilised dinosaur stampede on Earth. Here we discover the incredible story preserved in stone, where the footprints of hundreds of dinosaurs reveal a dramatic moment from over 95 million years ago. Returning to Winton for lunch, we visit the unique Musical Fence, where everyday fencing wire creates surprisingly melodic tunes, before seeing the site where Qantas was founded in 1920. There is also time to browse Winton’s welcoming main street before this evening’s visit to the historic Royal Open-Air Theatre, Australia’s oldest continuously operating open-air cinema.

Today we travel east to Hughenden, home to the impressive Flinders Discovery Centre, where interactive displays showcase the region’s rich fossil discoveries, ancient marine history and the prehistoric creatures that once roamed this remarkable landscape. After a picnic lunch, we enjoy time exploring Hughenden’s scenic Flinders River precinct, including the Eco Walk, recreational lake and the famous Coolibah Tree. This afternoon we continue to the beautifully preserved gold rush city of Charters Towers, once one of Australia’s richest gold mining centres.

After breakfast, we farewell Charters Towers with a guided tour of this beautifully preserved gold rush city. Once known as one of Australia’s richest goldfields, the town’s grand heritage buildings and wide streets reflect the wealth and prosperity of its golden era. We then visit the fascinating Venus Gold Battery, home to the oldest surviving gold crushing battery in Australia. During our guided tour, we discover how gold was processed and gain an insight into the lives of the miners who helped shape the region’s remarkable history.

Following free time to enjoy lunch in town, we make our way to Towers Hill Lookout, where sweeping panoramic views stretch across Charters Towers and the surrounding countryside. As the site where gold was first discovered in the district, the lookout offers fascinating interpretive displays, historic mining remnants and World War II bunkers, providing a fitting finale to our exploration of this remarkable gold rush town. We then continue to the tropical city of Townsville, where we settle into our accommodation before dinner together.

Our final morning begins with a sightseeing tour of Townsville, discovering many of the city’s landmarks before visiting The Palmetum, one of Australia’s premier botanic gardens dedicated exclusively to palms. Home to more than 300 species from around the world, this beautiful garden provides a peaceful setting for morning tea. We then explore the fascinating Museum of Tropical Queensland, where exhibitions showcase the natural history, maritime heritage and unique environment of North Queensland. After lunch we transfer to the airport for our flight home to Sydney, taking with us wonderful memories of Queensland’s Outback, pioneering history, dinosaurs and unforgettable landscapes.
