Tour description

Experience the heart of Australia in all its grandeur on this unforgettable journey through the Red Centre. Few sights are as moving as Uluru rising from the desert at dawn and dusk, its colours shifting from deep ochre to brilliant red as the light changes across the vast landscape. During our stay, you’ll also witness the world-renowned Field of Light installation — an extraordinary creation by artist Bruce Munro. As darkness settles and Uluru becomes a striking silhouette, a field of 50,000 illuminated stems blooms across the desert floor, creating a magical, immersive display unlike anything else on earth. From the ancient rock art to the gentle stories shared by local guides, Uluru is a place that stays with you long after you’ve returned home.

Our exploration continues at Kings Canyon, where towering sandstone walls plunge 300 metres to the valley floor and a lush garden oasis contrasts beautifully with the surrounding desert. A guided walk — whether the spectacular rim hike or the shorter canyon trail — reveals sweeping views and ancient landscapes shaped over millions of years. In Alice Springs, our experienced local guide brings the outback to life, sharing insights into Aboriginal culture, pioneering history and the natural forces that define this remarkable region. With visits to the Desert Park, Standley Chasm, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Telegraph Station and more, each day offers a new perspective on the land and its people. Thoughtfully planned with comfortable accommodation, memorable dining (including the iconic Sounds of Silence Dinner) and optional scenic flights, this tour showcases the true spirit, beauty and wonder of Australia’s Red Centre.

Testimonials

Re: Batemans Bay Hi Debbie, We have just returned from a 4-day trip to Bateman’s Bay with with Jimmy as our driver. I wanted to email to tell you how good he was. He was so friendly and pleasant, nothing was too much trouble, and his help / support of our older Ex-Servicemen and their wives was outstanding. He was also very interested in out stories which was lovely. I know we always get that level of service from OnCourse, and wanted you to know that it continued with Jimmy. He was so articulate on the microphone and always had some interesting bits of information about where we were or where we were near. The weather on our trip could have been better, but he did his best, moved things around, found places for us to stop in the rain, and always with a smile on his face and made the trip so enjoyable. His handling of the coach was also something we all commented on. Once again, another lovely trip away, and I wouldn’t hesitate to go on any trip Jimmy was involved in.

Dear On Course Tours Thank you so much for the wonderful 3 day trip to Oberon. It was great to go to Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens and “Bebeah” at Mt Wilson on the first day. Mayfield Gardens (the full gardens) did not disappoint and the weather was so kind to us. The rhododendrons and the crab apples were certainly on display for us. Jimmy did a great job looking after us all. The accommodation was great as well all the good food! Going to Everglades on the day we came home was an added bonus and some time in Leura was great as well. I was even home in time to plant out a replacement Daphne that I had got. l am now looking forward to the Yamba and Grafton trip – here’s hoping the weather will be kind to us. I would love next year’s program when it has been completed. I hear it is nearly finished.

Yours sincerely, RP
